We (my wife and I) participated in the Bank of America boycott and closed all our accounts. This included three checking accounts, a business account, savings account and a $150000.00 line of credit account. We had three separate direct deposit accounts that were extremely difficult to get changed. We even told the bank personnel why we were moving and the bank President even left to work for another Bank. We did moved some of our business to him. All in all we are quite satisfied with our move. However, we don’t see if any effect came of this move and we have not heard any more regarding this operation. Does anyone have more info or an updated report on this event?

Hoppy,

Thank you for your participation. We had about 20 locations participate in the event. Each location coordinated by a different volunteer. I know that at the location I was at at least 1 million dollars worth of accounts were closed. I know that the stock took a hit from the negative publicity and our efforts. I don't know that we changed B of A's behavior, but we accomplished what we set out to do:

1) close some accounts showing that the citizen consumer still is in contrl of their money (so far)
2) didn't allow B of A to pander to illegal aliens without a huge public outcry (in both media and in choosing where we spend our dollars)

Being as large as they are, they continued with business as usual, without being hurt too badly (said stock drop, loss of accounts, and media exposure the exceptions). In fact, they are back at it with a new program (in California it's called Bank on California). You can read more about it at http://www.OperationBankrupt.com.

Let me ask you: Do you have more ideas on how to take this project to the next level?

Thanks for your question and feedback!

Jason,
I am so fed up with big business and with all the so called political correctness that I could choke. I live in a small town and not enough people here to make a difference in a boycott. However, if we can grow bigger and bigger with more of the silent majority becoming envolved then maybe a bigger dent can be made. I will of course keep writting letters to my elected liberals, send emails to my friends and relatives asking them for involvement and for financial help if they can. I propose this Jason to help financially. I don't have a lot of money but I could pledge a certain amount to be placed on my credit card and drawn on a monthly basis rather then all at once. If that program could be put together maybe we could garner more support. This is how I became a life member in the NRA.

Hi Hoppy,

I feel your pain!

It's funny you should mention growing "bigger and bigger". While the FIRE Coalition is not as large as the NRA, with the help of our Coalition Partners we are trying to draw more patriots into the mix. This is a mandatory requirement if we are to be successful. I have a conference call set up with the leaders of our coalition partners next week and I will address this issue (as well as others).

As for your proposal, Hoppy. That is the ideal situation. You can donate at http://www.FIRECoalition.com. When members of the coalition can pledge a certain amount each month, we can effectively budget; more effectively than when the random $10 or $25 dollar donation comes it. As it is, we operate at about a $300 deficit per month now with our corporate credit card taking the brunt. It doesn't take too many $25 per month donations to at least allow us to operate at break even. Then anything additional will just allow us to do even more than we are today.

Regardless, I appreciate your staying involved. That's half the battle: you can't win if you don't stay in the fight.

Jason, The ideal way to donate is to let the donor decide what monthly figure they can afford and allow them to submit their credit card. Then the Coalition can post the desired amount every month but still know that annually they will be receiving X number of dollars. I saw two options on the link, three if you count PayPal. A single donation of X dollars or a $25.00 monthly donation. More can be obtained by the five or 10 dollar monthly committments than a locked in figure. While some can afford $25.00 dollars a months others can only afford five. I saw now way around that.

Hoppy,

Excellent suggestion. Months ago when we placed that feature on our site, we chose one dollar figure as a compromise between "How many recurring donations will we get" and "What is our monthly overhead requirement". I'll add on a $5 and $10 dollar one.

Thanks!

Thanks Jason. Then I will try to be the first to pledge $100.00 this year at $10.00 a month. I may add more if my stocks come back. Being forced early into medical retired makes for a small income.

No, thank YOU Hoppy. Every little bit helps. I think the support on a budget is the best way to go. Sorry about the medical retirement!
